One of the most common questions in charcoal briquette production is: how much binder should be added?

There is no single dosage suitable for every charcoal factory because raw materials, equipment and product requirements are different.

Typical Trial Dosage

For some charcoal materials, approximately 2% can be used as an initial test dosage.

100 kg charcoal powder + about 2 kg binder

For a 1,000 kg test batch:

1,000 kg charcoal powder + about 20 kg binder

What Affects Binder Dosage?

  • Charcoal raw material

  • Particle size

  • Moisture content

  • Machine pressure

  • Briquette shape and size

  • Required mechanical strength

  • Final application

Is More Binder Always Better?

No. Excessive binder can increase production cost and change the finished briquette formulation.

The objective is to find the lowest practical dosage that can meet the required briquette strength.

Recommended Test

Prepare three small batches with slightly different binder ratios while keeping water, pressure and drying conditions as stable as possible.

After drying, compare:

strength + cracking + powder loss + handling performance

Use the test results to determine the final production ratio.
