Charcoal briquette binder is a binding material used to help loose charcoal powder form stable and strong briquettes during pressing. It is commonly used in BBQ charcoal, coconut charcoal, shisha charcoal, hookah charcoal and other charcoal briquette production.

A suitable binder can help improve briquette strength, forming stability and transportation resistance, while reducing cracking, breakage and powder loss.

Why Is Charcoal Briquette Binder Needed?

Charcoal powder normally has limited natural bonding ability. During briquetting, the powder must remain together after pressing, drying, packing and transportation.

A charcoal briquette binder mainly helps to:

  • Improve charcoal powder forming performance

  • Increase green briquette strength

  • Improve dry briquette strength

  • Reduce cracking and breakage

  • Reduce powder loss during handling

  • Improve transportation stability

What Charcoal Can It Be Used For?

Charcoal briquette binder can be tested with different carbon materials, including:

  • BBQ charcoal briquettes

  • Coconut shell charcoal briquettes

  • Shisha charcoal

  • Hookah charcoal

  • Wood charcoal powder

  • Biomass charcoal powder

How Much Binder Should Be Added?

A typical trial dosage can start from about 2%.

Example: 100 kg charcoal powder + about 2 kg binder.

This is only a reference. Actual dosage should be adjusted according to particle size, moisture, briquette machine pressure, briquette shape and required strength.

How to Use Charcoal Briquette Binder

  1. Prepare and screen the charcoal powder.

  2. Add the required amount of binder.

  3. Mix the binder and charcoal powder evenly.

  4. Add water gradually while mixing.

  5. Feed the material into the briquette machine.

  6. Dry the briquettes and check strength and cracking.

What Should Be Tested?

Before mass production, check forming rate, cracking, compression strength, drop strength, powder loss and transportation strength.

The best binder ratio should be determined according to actual raw material and production conditions.
